After breakfast, we'll depart for Tena by bus, enjoying the scenic 5-hour journey as the mountain landscape gives way to lush jungle. Upon arrival, lunch will be served, and you'll have time to relax and settle in at the hostel, perhaps even taking a dip in the pool. In the evening, there will be an orientation meeting to discuss the week's plans and safety guidelines.
Begin the Reality Tour by visiting Ahuano Community to meet a local family and delve into discussions about traditional medicine and the education system at a nearby school. Following lunch, venture to Shiripuno Community to immerse in Tena's culture. Explore a women’s co-op, witness a traditional dance, learn chocolate-making from cacao, and gain insights into Amazonian rainforest culture and attire. After returning to the hotel for relaxation, convene in the conference room at 5 pm for a presentation on MEDLIFE’s initiatives and receive Mobile Clinic station assignments for the week. Volunteers are then free for the evening.
Mobile Clinics are held daily in various communities, 30 minutes to 2 hours away. Volunteers unload supplies, meet health professionals, and receive brief training before clinics open between 8-9 am. Patients visit Triage, Education, and Medical Consultation Stations. Volunteers assist in pharmacy tasks and switch stations after lunch, with clinics closing between 1-3 pm.
They may also help with community Development Projects. Evenings feature Post-Clinic Activities at 5 pm before dinner.
After working on either the Development Project or a Mobile Clinic for the first half of the day, all volunteers will then head to the development project site for an inauguration celebration with the community.
