MED Anywhere is a Virtual Service Learning Trip that allows students to engage in meaningful learning and volunteering from the comfort of their home or dorm. Through a series of interactive Zoom workshops, participants explore key topics like global health, poverty, and inequality. The program offers more than a typical virtual class. Students experience immersive sessions that highlight the social, economic, and historical factors impacting underserved communities. They also learn how MEDLIFE collaborates with these communities to create sustainable change. A key highlight of MED Anywhere is the opportunity to connect directly with local professionals in healthcare, education, and development, as well as community leaders. These virtual Q&A sessions and roundtable discussions provide unique insight and foster meaningful exchange.

I had the best time on this trip! I loved everything about it. I enjoyed getting to help the people of Cusco both medically and also by building a greenhouse for a family. Giving back is something that has always been so special to me, and I enjoyed getting to help these people.

It was an amazing experience. I loved the balance of service and being in a great town like Antigua where we could walk around and explore more of the city. I also loved all the staff, especially the doctors, who made the trip very rewarding.

I had such a wonderful time. I was worried about the language barrier, but they did a good job at translating or finding someone to translate for us and making sure we all had a smile on our faces. I love Urbano he was the best.

It was a great experience. Peru was more beautiful than I could've imagined, and the people I met were so great! I loved having this opportunity to serve the people of Peru

It was a great trip! Good acomodation and service, great resources and active staff. 

It was an amazing experience! I loved the activities, but sadly we couldn’t have our last clinic day so I couldn’t have the General Medicine experience. The hotel in Cusco was not the best and we had some issues with the smell and that we didn’t have any windows or fans. Aside from that, i would recommend!

Had a great time. It was a beautiful experience that will leave an impact on my heart forever. The medlife team with us was great, very kind, helpful and supportive. I would do a trip like this 100 times over. 

I had an amazing time with Medlife and the experiences it gave me. All the accommodations were fantastic, the tour guides were also amazing and provided great information about the activities for the day.

Visiting Lima, Peru and working along side MEDLIFE was so meaningful and something I will never forget. It was truly an eye opening experience that allowed me to solidify my career pathway. Becoming fully immersed into a new culture was a feeling like no other. It challenged me, educated me, and allowed me to grow as a person. I would recommend any person pursuing the medical field to go on one of these learning service trips, because it will allow you one step in the door of what could be your future. 

I had a great time and learned so much. I want to especially give appreciation to Carolina Acosta, she encouraged each and every one of us to step out of our comfort zone. The healthcare professionals, communities, and fellow students all contributed in making a difference for myself and those around us. Thank you so much MEDLIFE!

I had an amazing experience! Our group leader, Carolina, was incredibly helpful in giving advice on activities for our free time, knowledgeable in answering any questions we had regarding any topic, and clear in instructions for our clinic days and rotations. This experience was overall incredibly enlightening and encouraging.

I had an incredible time. The people part of MEDLIFE were all super sweet and super helpful. I loved how supportive they all were. I also loved the locations of the clinic.

It was an incredible learning experience. Everyone was so kind and I'm happy that there were a lot of educational opportunities. I'm eternally grateful that I was able to help such a wonderful community.

I had the best time on this trip. All of the MEDLIFE leaders were wonderful and made the experience run as smoothly as it possibly could have. The communities we interacted with were amazing people as well. Doing hands on work to truly make a difference in people’s lives was the most rewarding thing I have ever experienced.

My MEDLIFE service learning trip to Costa Rica was an unforgettable and transformative experience. From working in mobile clinics to engaging directly with underserved communities by building a road, every day reinforced why I am passionate about medicine and service. The trip was well organized, balancing meaningful clinical exposure with community development projects that allowed us to see the real impact of sustainable outreach. Interacting with patients, practicing medical Spanish, and witnessing how social and systemic factors influence healthcare delivery broadened my perspective on medicine beyond the classroom.

The MEDLIFE staff and local medical professionals were knowledgeable, supportive, and deeply committed to ethical, community-centered care. I left Costa Rica with a stronger sense of purpose, greater cultural awareness, and a renewed motivation to pursue medicine with a global mindset. I would highly recommend this trip to any student seeking meaningful clinical exposure, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of global health.

I got to meet a lot of great people. The food was good. The hotels were both great. The country was incredibly beautiful. The excursions were fun and exciting. The mobile clinic was my favorite part. It was a truly rewarding and fulfilling experience.

Overall, my trip was an incredible experience. Every moment was meaningful, and I truly feel that all of us cherished the opportunity to learn more about the culture, the people, and the food. It was a transformative experience that I will always value.

However, there are a few important areas that could be improved. As one of the SLT officers for my MEDLIFE chapter, I felt that my role and leadership were not adequately acknowledged by the trip leaders. Throughout the trip, I was often left out of important updates and decisions, which resulted in receiving critical information late or without proper communication. This lack of transparency was difficult, not only for me, but also for my group, who felt confused and disappointed by the situation.

Additionally, access to basic necessities such as water was very limited, particularly during the tourism extensions. Very few water bottles were provided, which forced participants to spend a significant amount of their own money on bottled water and snacks. Given the climate and long days, better planning in this area would have greatly improved the experience.

Another major concern was the communication before the trip regarding room accommodations. We were notified of our room assignments only five days before departure, and when concerns were raised, they were left unanswered. This caused unnecessary stress and uncertainty leading up to the trip.

Despite these concerns, the overall experience was meaningful and impactful. I hope this feedback is taken into consideration to improve communication, leadership recognition, and logistical planning for future trips.

Had a good time with friends. Learned so much about Perú and about the people, it was very especial. Definitely would recommend others to have this opportunity and will definitely go to another trip.

I had an amazing time. It was truly unforgettable trip. The only things I would change would be providing bottled water much more frequently to the students on the trip. We ended up needing to buy a ton of water at the nearby convenience store throughout the trip. The second thing I would improve would be improving the lunch meals. The breakfast and dinner provided by the hotel was great but the lunch provided by Medlife unfortunately wasn’t good. Again, an amazing unforgettable trip.

Our hostel was very nice, and the food was great! The clinical days were my personal favorite and the project day taught me a lot. Made lots of new friends and loved the Costa Rican culture. 

We had an amazing trip. Super informative and I gained so much knowledge. I met a lot of great people and would definetly do it again!

I had a great, eye-opening experience. This trip was once in a lifetime and I met amazing people. I could talk about this trip for hours exploring the different mobile clinics, the culture shock and the amazing local and Medlife supervisors I met. The only thing I have to critique is on project day, our group wanted to finish the road and had about 15 min. left of work, however our Medlife leader, Emanuel, insisted on going back to miss traffic. Emanuel was a great leader though had moments that frustrated the group like not translating exactly what the local people were saying and repeating a lot of speeches rather than getting to the point of the day. 

I had a wonderful time on this SLT in San Jose. The trip leaders and all the MEDLIFE staff were incredible.  There were many challenges on this trip, mainly involving the students of other universities and their disrespectful behavior to all others, but the staff handled the situations as best as they could and remained kind and encouraging.  

This trip was difficult in the sense that the food was limited.  I often found myself concerned about what I ate as the hotel did not take food allergies very seriously, and did not provide filling alternatives when allergens were present.  There was also not very much protein provided, which was challenging as we were all often very hungry throughout the day.  This was challenging for me, but thankfully I was able to access local grocery stores to supplement my meals, but that was an added expense I was not anticipating.  The hotel accommodations were expensive per person, and I feel that for the price I paid, it was not worth the accommodation.  

However, the medical clinics, reality tour, and development project were all wonderfully coordinated, and the impact we made was very visible.  This was overall a great learning opportunity, and a successful trip.  I would recommended MEDLIFE to anyone, but perhaps a different SLT or with some modifications to this SLT. 

Delicious food, excellent trip leaders (Ricardo, Rubit and Diego). It was an unforgettable experience! The only thing is that the hotel was very uncomfortable. We had a room for 12 people and only one bathroom. The lock of one of the showers fell, and the door of the toilet also fell.  No air conditioning only one fan for all 12 of us. 

The trip was an unforgettable experience that showed me the true impact of service and healthcare. The leaders were amazing to work with and made the experience even better. I am forever grateful for the people I met along the way and to MEDLIFE for making it all happen!

This trip was a transformational experience. From working with different people in impoverished communities, to building a greenhouse for a family to help them grow food during all seasons, it was eye-opening to see how different people live. The resilience that I witnessed was unlike anything I had ever seen before. Additionally, I was able to be put into clinical settings I had never been put in before and learned so much as a result. The food we were served was great and different, and all the staff in the hotel were friendly. The trip was very well planned out, and the trip to Machu Picchu was great. 

We had a great time. I wish the provided meals were more Peruvian based but I understand it must be accommodated for everyone. The staff was phenomenal and super supportive throughout the entire process. I would love to travel with MedLife again!

Definitely one of the best trips of my life. The eye-opening experiences, the diversity within Costa Rican culture, and the friendships that will last a lifetime have ultimately created an experience like no other. Everyday was a learning experience and an opportunity to broaden my horizons.

It was an extremely rewarding trip to say the least. Paula and Emmanuel both were extremely accommodating and helpful with putting things together, translating, and thinking quickly during unexpected changes in schedule!! The outcome out the trip to be able to help communities in need was very successful!!

We had a great time on the trip, a few bumps along the road but the clinics were great and so was the development day. I loved our trip leader Emmanuel, he was easy to talk to and get to know. It was good to be able to experience a small part of Costa Rican culture and life within the city and I have little to no complaints regarding the logistics of the trip. 

I had a great time, everything was amazing and we were well taken care of. It was the best experience and I will sure be back!

The course commences with a comprehensive introduction, followed by an in-depth exploration of the history and culture of the Andean world. Participants will also examine the economic landscape of Cusco to better understand the region’s contemporary challenges and opportunities.
