At MEDLIFE, we're dedicated to building a global movement that empowers disadvantaged communities in their quest for equality in healthcare, education, and access to a safe home. As a volunteer in the Service Learning Trip (SLT) program in Cusco, Peru, you'll contribute to development projects, participate in educational workshops, and provide free medical care to those in need. Additionally, you'll have the invaluable opportunity to immerse yourself in a new culture and understand other realities.

8-nights dorm room accommodation for 6 to 9 people, exclusively with MEDLIFE participants
3 meals a day are provided Monday-Friday, along with breakfast provided on the weekends.
To and from the airport (within the established schedule), and to SLT activities.
The insurance requires a $250 payment as a deductible for coverage.
Arrive to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ) between 5 am and 2 pm. A MEDLIFE associate will be waiting for you outside of the airport with a MEDLIFE sign. Take the rest of the day to rest and acclimatize to Cusco’s altitude. Meals are not provided today, but there are restaurants nearby.
Today, join a walking tour led by a MEDLIFE Trip Leader through South America's most beautiful city. Discover the route from the hotel to Plaza de Armas, receive tips on currency exchange, and get recommendations for dining and attractions during your free time throughout the week. The tour concludes at Plaza de Armas, leaving the afternoon free to enjoy lunch and explore the historic district. In the evening, gather in the hotel conference room for a briefing on the week's activities and safety recommendations.
Today head out on a full-day Cusco Reality Tour that will help get you oriented to the geographical, political, and social realities of the region. During the tour, you will visit various districts of Cusco before stopping at a primary school to discuss the relationship between poverty and education. You will then head to a regional hospital to learn about the Peruvian healthcare system. For lunch, volunteers will picnic at Mirador Taray (weather permitting), overlooking the Sacred Valley. Return to the hostel and have some time to rest and relax.
Volunteers will join medical Mobile Clinics in various communities in Cusco. Each day, a different community will host the clinic. Upon arrival, volunteers unload supplies and meet health professionals for a brief training session before the clinic opens at 8-9 am. Patients go through triage, educational talks, consultations, and pharmacy visits until the lunch break at 11:30 am. Afternoon stations follow until clinic closure between 1-3 pm, depending on patient volume. Evenings include interactive activities before dinner. On free days, volunteers can explore the city.
The final day of the Service Learning trip will be spent in a MEDLIFE partner community, volunteering on a development initiative. Projects may include activities such as home renovations, fuel-efficient stoves, or building a greenhouse!
After the project has been completed, take part in an inauguration with the community to celebrate all that you’ve achieved!
We’ll return to the hostel around 2:30 pm-4:00 pm for a short reflection and debrief with the MEDLIFE team to wrap up the week.
Exploring Machu Picchu (Full day experience), spend a full day learning about the historic ruins of Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been astonishing archeologists and travelers for years.
Continue exploring Peru or return home.
Depart Cusco anytime between 5 am and 2 pm.
